Do you Tweet Success?

Social media networking is raging more in early 2009 it seems than its previous years of existents. It seems everyone has a presence somewhere on the web and new networks are being created daily. I’m trying to learn and keep up with those that seem to know what they are doing, but it’s a daunting task. It seemed like yesterday everyone was talking about Myspace, blogs and then Facebook started to make its move and what a move it is. I have a Myspace and Facebook account and a few others for friends, and family members. I also use them for associations and for networking.

From my Facebook page I get friend requests from marketers on a daily basis. Unlike most people I hear complaining about it, I rather enjoy the request even if they are trying to sell me information. I enjoy expanding the gray matter whenever I can, but  I have to admit, many times I can’t follow what’s being given to me because my genre is different from social marketing. It’s not in sales per say, it’s in the art of designing watches. My time is dedicated to drawings and more drawings, then talking concepts to my manufacturing department. It takes a lot of daily/weekly hours to create a timepiece with so many ideas coming at you from space and it can take many months to bring the ideas to production.

Did I mention my business is not in sales per say? Perhaps I neglected to mention I also have to get my product out to those that find my work favorable to want to own a timepiece created by me. So I try and read your online advice and as many books on marketing and branding as possible. Much of the advice I hear today is telling everyone to follow your dreams and passions and success will come. I’ve been giving that advice out to people longer than many of you have been blogging about it. It’s true, how many people do you know can conceive, design, and manufacture a quality timepiece. Now couple that with being Black in ethnicity; growing up in an unsavory neighborhood (things could have easily gone another direction for me) and loving watches every since I got a Mickey Mouse watch at six years old, so believe me, I am following my dream.

I’d love to tweet about all my experience considering this is the new platform of communication and I just signed on recently. And when I check out the many profiles of people that tweet, it’s simply amazes me to no end. People are tweeting from SXSW and sharing updates on the latest IT to following gurus from Guy Kawasaki to Richard Branson and so many more in between. So naturally I want to experience this new application excitement as well.  So tell me, how does the average Joe know who to network with or even follow meaningful understanding from this Tweet Universe?

I’ve given this write-up a lot of thought and realize that you guys (tweeters) are the village and I’m the child. I have a gift to give as well as a past with my experiences from Far East to Switzerland about the manufacture of quality timepieces. I want to be able to change the lives of the younger generations to be able to see the future can be more than dreams of being athletes or drug dealers. Why not watch making school, gemology, architectural design, application design and building or any other profession that isn’t readily spoken about or taught in tuff neighborhoods throughout the US? I can’t save the world, but I can help make it a better place with a village of smart marketers and genuine people like you, even if it is one tweet at a time.
